Derek Kasper was first introduced to ceramics and art via a romance with a potter at the University of Regina in the early '70s.  His passion for making soon branched out to woodworking and building.  Workshops at MISSA and with the South Vancouver Island Potters Guild have honed his ceramic skills and increased his knowledge of technical aspects of larger ceramic forms. He describes his main body of work as 'hand-built and textural, faceted form"He enjoys exploring the combining and re-combining of singular shape to create something entirely different.  Interplay of light and shadow over textured surfaces help to reveal the meaning behind Dereks ceramic forms.
